Stakeholders in climate change in East Africa sensitized on AfricaInteract

Within the plan for the AfricaInteract project to cover the entire African continent one region at a time, a sensitization workshop was held from February 29 to March 1 2012 in Nairobi, Kenya, to cover the Eastern Africa Region. The main objective of the regional workshop held with the support of IDRC was to inform key stakeholders in adaptation to climate change in Eastern Africa about details of the project and key partners for implementing the project in the Eastern Africa sub region are identified”.

About 40 participants, representing sub-regional and international research organizations, nongovernmental organizations, farmers’ organizations, national and regional policy makers attended the workshop, which was held at the Hilton hotel in Nairobi, Kenya.

AfricaInteract establishes vital links with key ECOWAS parliamentarians

The AfricaInteract methodology workshop and the communication strategy clearly identified the Regional Economic Communities (REC) as vital for the objectives of AfricaInteract. It was therefore thought prudent to engage key members of the REC to ascertain the recommendations of the communication strategy as well as build on any emerging opportunity that will ensure effective engagement with the Regional Economic Policy machinery.

AfricaInteract officially launched in Durban, South Africa

AfricaInteract was officially launched under the auspices of the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA) during the FARA CoP 17 side event Inaugural annual continental consultation on ‘Smart investments in climate change for Africa’s agriculture development’ on December 3 2011, at the Chantecler Estate in Durban, South Africa. The occasion was graced by a cross section of stakeholders in agricultural research and development in general and climate change in particular including researchers, development workers, and policy makers.

Stakeholders in climate change in West Africa sensitized on AfricaInteract

Following the June 2011 launching workshop that helped in fine-tuning the project objectives and expected results, CORAF / WECARD aims to ensure that the conceptual framework is broadly shared and owned by major stakeholders in the various sub regions of the continent. Therefore, the main objective of the regional workshop held on September 28th and 29th, 2011 in Abuja, Nigeria was that “Key stakeholders in adaptation to climate change in West Africa are informed about details of the project and key partners for implementing the project in the West Africa sub region are identified”.

 More than 30 participants, representing sub-regional and international research organizations, nongovernmental organizations, farmers’ organizations, and policy makers attended the workshop which was held in Abuja under the auspices of the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS).

Key continental stakeholders embrace AfricaInteract

CORAF/WECARD is spearheading the AfricaInteract project, which is a platform for exchange between African Research Scientists and Policy makers on climate change Adaptation funded by IDRC. The duration of the project will be three years from April 2011 to March 2014. The platform will provide the required environment to facilitate consensus on critical areas and appropriate action research gaps in policy-options for climate change of relevance to the African continent.

CORAF/WECARD organised a workshop on the 29th and 30th June, 2011 at Saly, in Senegal.  The Objective of the Workshop was Project structure reviewed and finalised with input and consensus from stakeholders.
